Second House Now, Sell Later

Mr and Mrs are retired, empty nesters. Mrs is a sweet mama who enjoys cooking and gardening; Mr is a charmer who enjoys his fast cars. Both love Golf and Family. They split their time between their family house in Chicagoland and a second house on the West Coast of Florida. Mr and Mrs were looking for a nod to Coastal Living without diving into the deep end. They have a curious grandbaby and German Shepherds which contribute to a very active household. They asked to keep the floors (for now) and the newer appliances (tried and true Monogram). They asked that we repurpose the existing cabinets. Will do!

BEFORE

This kitchen was well-lived-in. Decades of family, love, and cooking! It was worn out. The question is “Do we paint the cabinets and put the house on the market in a decade or do we enjoy it while we can?” We always know the answer, but sometimes we need an expert to help us talk it through.

Renderings

The Client Struggled a bit on pulling together the details on this kitchen; inset vs full overlay, White Oak Bases with White Uppers vs White Perimeter with White Oak Islands, Charlotte Door vs Naples Door – we finalized after six sets of renderings! Oowee!! Thank goodness for modern technology.

KEEP THE FLOORS

We reconciled having to keep the existing floors which can be covered when the activity in the house mellows, or they decide to sell. Our goal was to make them disappear; mission accomplished!

Cabinets

To ensure that the cabinets maintain their freshness when it is time to sell, we opted for a forgiving and warm Designer White by Woodharbor Custom Cabinetry coupled with fashion forward Boardwalk Saltwater White Cerused Quarter Sawn White Oak Islands.

Monogram Appliances

As directed, we kept their Monogram appliances with the exception of a smokin’ hot new Dacor rangetop with monster drawers below.

Storage

We repurposed and refinished their existing cabinetry to build out their Pantry and Laundry Room.

Shine

We added some bling in the light fixtures and hardware.

Countertops

We used quiet yet subtly dramatic Cambria Brittanicca Warm, complete with strategically placed Waterfalls and High Chair Overhangs.

Details

We added pops of bling with Top Knobs Honey Bronze Quilted Pulls that mirror the Diamond Travertine Backsplash.

The Result

Mixed Metals throughout keep this mature, executive house chic and current. Mrs has the Chef’s Kitchen she has always dreamed of, and Mr loves his wife. When they are ready to sell, this stunner of a kitchen will blow away the buyers. Congratulations, la mia famiglia!!
